Adelaide pop-punk band Down And Out drop their zestful, catchy new single, Sidelines.
South Australian punks Down And Out have delivered an energetic track full of punchy verses and anthemic choruses. The band flew to Sydney in 2021 to record with producer Stevie Knight (Yours Truly, Stand Atlantic). With a mission to produce a track that exudes energy and confidence inspired by the likes of The Story So Far and Neck Deep, the band passionately highlight their message, that life is here to be lived, on the new single.
Sidelines take aim at capitalism and its impact on the less fortunate who are left “broken down but trying”. Vocalist Luke Ganeo explains that the track is “…a song about how the rich get richer and the rest of us continue to work our fingers to the bone for those who profit from it. The song talks about the impacts of capitalism and how it drains resources out of the developing world in order to enrich the wrong people. While none of this is particularly new, very few people are ready to point the finger directly at those at fault.”
To celebrate the release of Sidelines, Down And Out is launching the single live at UniBar, in Adelaide on June 25. Drastic Park, Lickity Split and Mums Favourite step up to support the occasion. Tickets are available via Moshtix.
With foundations inspired by various influences and interests, the band is working towards a yet-to-be-announced extended release, covering themes that tackle everything from relationships and heartbreak to political corruption and thoughtful revelations.
Down And Out recently jumped up to support RedHook and The Dead Love on the Bring Ya Mates Tour in April and have previously joined forces playing with Adelaide favourites in NO NO NO NO NO, Larsen, Agapanther, Wolf & Chain and more. Having garnered multiple four-star triple j Unearthed staff reviews and kudos from Aussie media over the years, the band are back with their infectious blend of aggressive pop-punk to prove they’re here to stay.
Sidelines is available now and streaming everywhere.
