IDLES pay homage to the post-punk legends releasing a cover of ‘Damaged Goods’ for the tribute album ‘The Problem of Leisure: A Celebration of Andy Gill and Gang of Four.’
Popular British punks IDLES have paid tribute to Gang of Four, covering one of their most iconic songs. The band have taken Damaged Goods, adding only a slight Idles spin, keeping the classic track true to its brilliant original form.
“IDLES does not exist without Gang Of Four,” the band said in a statement. “Damaged Goods still sounds new and exciting after the millionth listen. We jumped at the chance just to play it, let alone record it. It was an honour, a joy and a privilege.”
The track was recorded for the tribute album The Problem of Leisure: A Celebration of Andy Gill and Gang of Four out June 4th. The tribute album features an impressive lineup of artists covering and remixing classic Gang of Four songs. The assortment of industry royalty includes Tom Morello and Serj Tankian, Red Hot Chilli Peppers‘ Flea and John Frusciante, Helmet, Gary Numan, Killing Joke, and more.
The albums title is taken from the opening line of Go4 song Natural’s Not In It.

Everyone should have a soundtrack playing loudly in the background of their life. I was born moshing to my own beat and have never swayed from my love of music. Spreading my passion through the written word is my soul’s purpose. My punk heart beats loudly with the rhythm of my rock soul. I plan to continue to mosh like no one gives a shit.
