Avril Lavigne Collaborates With Willow Smith on New Pop-Punk Track

The American singer, actress and dancer and daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, has teamed up with Canada’s pop-punk Queen on a new track from her upcoming album.

This week, pop punk-royalty Avril Lavigne, was on the set of Willow Smith‘s new video, that was being filmed in LA. Smith known simply as Willow, released her latest single Transparentsoul – featuring another a pop-punk icon Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker – back in April.

This new album sees her collaborating with several feature artists in contrast to her previous solo release, 2019’s Willow. “On my previous albums, I was in the studio by-myself a lot. It was a very insular process for this album. I wanted to open myself up a little bit more and not just be so anti-social in the studio.” Willow recently told V Magazine.

The young artists has also declared her admiration for Lavigne, “She is so iconic. From [ages] 13 to 16, she was my idol. It’s really nice to be able to have a quintessential pop-punk record with the pop-punk queen.’

20-year-old Smith has embraced her love of punk rock pursuing her dreams in a music genre that is seeing a rise in young, inspired newcomers. She is playing her part in the rise of black women in punk, rock and metal and fighting the social prejudices that have been assigned to musical genres in the past.

It will be interesting to see where Willow goes next as she pushes boundaries and kicks down doors for future young black artists. She recently declared her genre fluidity within the music realm – “I’m going to go wherever the music is, but I love pop-punk a lot. But, where my heart lies, is metal. At some point, that’s definitely going to happen.”
