Teenage Bottlerocket’s ninth album will be a Sick Sesh!

The Wyoming pop-punk band are readying themselves for an August release of their latest LP, a 12-track collection called Sick Sesh!

Ahead of the release of Bottlerockets LP the band has just shared a video for the disc’s lead single, ‘Ghost Story,’ which comes complete with a haunting animated video from Kaleb Kaiser.

The song’s lyrics were written by bassist Miguel Chen, who said: “My awesome wife and I were sitting around one day, when she told me she worries about what would happen to her and the kids if I ever died. I jokingly told her it’d be a ghost story because I’d definitely come back to haunt them.”

The band kicks off their US Safety First, Party Second tour next week in Knoxville Tennessee, with support variously coming from MakeWar, The Last Gang, Heart and Lung, and others.

But the outing hit the headlines last month when a US promoter for the tour’s St Petersburg, Florida date decided to charge attendees without a Covid vaccine a ticket price of $1,000 – and $18 for those who can prove they’ve had the jab.

“Honestly, at first I thought he was joking,” Chen – who’s also Teenage Bottlerocket’s tour manager – told CNN. “Then, after ticket sales went out, we realised he was not joking, though we also noticed that, immediately, a lot of people bought tickets, realising that was going to the stipulation.”

He added: “I think that there’s a lot of ways to try and have a safe show and I think that guidelines are changing and what we know during the pandemic is changing so much, that it’s kinda up to each promoter in each city to try and figure out what’s going to work best in their particular markets.”

Consequently, the Safety First, Party Second tour also has some shows that are outdoors and some will require temperature checks.

Sick Sesh! was recorded at The Blasting Room, the Colorado studio co-owned by Bill Stevenson – drummer with the Descendents, among others, and will be out on 27 August.

While pressing plant delays will hold up its vinyl version until November, its lead single Ghost Story is streaming now.
