The Go-Go’s Announce West Coast Tour To Celebrate Hall of Fame Induction

It’s been a long time coming, but finally, after 40 years since the release of their debut album, the Go-Go’s are about to be inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, and they’re taking to the road to celebrate.

The Go-Go’s have announced a short run of concerts in celebration of both their upcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the release of their new documentary film simply named The Go-Go’s.

The West Coast tour includes a five-date late December/early January tour with stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas (two nights), and San Diego.

After four decades since the release of their debut album Beauty and the Beat in 1981, 2021 proved to be the year the band would be officially nominated for the prestigious honour and subsequently elected into the Hall.

This year’s induction class includes other notable performers, including Tina Turner, Carole King, JAY-Z, Foo Fighters, and Todd Rundgren, who will also be inducted this year.

Initially formed as a punk band in Los Angeles in 1978, the first incarnation of the Go-Go’s consisted of Belinda Carlisle (vocals), Jane Wiedlin (guitar, backing vocals), Margot Olavarria (bass), and Elissa Bello (drums).  Charlotte Caffey (lead guitar, keyboards, background vocals) joined the band later that same year. The following year the band saw its first lineup change with the departure of Bello and Olavarria in 1979 and 1980, respectively; the group added Gina Schock (drums) and Kathy Valentine (bass).

The Go-Go’s gradually shifted away from punk rock into pop-rock, a move that would eventually result in the monumental rise of the all-female quintet as they caught on with the New Wave movement of the early 1980s. The band saw several breakups, reunions, and lawsuits. The Go-Go’s would go on to release only four studio albums: Beauty and the Beat (1981), Vacation (1982), Talk Show (1984), and God Bless the Go-Go’s (2001).

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will occur on October 30 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio.
