US punk band The Muslims have signed to Epitaph Records and are marking the occasion with the release of an anti-fascist anthem for our times.
Fuck These Fuckin’ Fascists pulls no punches and was written between Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial and the attempted coup by the former US president’s right-wing supporters.
Singer and guitarist QADR said: “What a time to be alive. As a person who fits the description of a so-called ‘Black Identity Extremist’, I find it funny that our music and message, calling out racist violence, makes people more uncomfortable than actual racist violence. At least we’re cute, tender, and funny AF.”
The Durham, NC queer POC trio of QADR, bassist Abu Shea and drummer Ba7ba7 draws inspiration from classic punk and Afropunk, combining sharp lyrics, gut-wrenching rhythms and offensive satire.
The Muslims were formed in 2017, in the aftermath of the previous year’s US election, and already have three albums under their belts. Most recently they put out 2020’s Gentrified Chicken, which continued their mission of calling out racism, notably on Punk A Nazi.
“Artists are the truth-tellers throughout history, and we’re just speaking our truth,” said QADR “Fascism was never wiped out, it just got more polite and calls itself a Richard Spencer now, whatever that is. We’re going to speak truth to power and have a damn good time doing it.”
