London’s Dream Nails are back with their first release since recruiting new singer Leah Kirby, and it’s a catchy surf-rock influenced tune called Take Up Space.
It’s a song that looks forward to going out, sunbathing, going on dates – but is clear-eyed about the creeps that lurk in the night, causing keys to be held like Wolverine.
The summery single arrives just days after Kirby’s first gig with guitarist Anya Pearson, bassist Mimi Jasson and drummer Lucy Katz at a sold-out, secret fan club show in London. Kirby was only announced as the new Dreams Singer last month after previous singer and founding member Janey Starling left in May.
Next month the band kicks off a headline tour that begins in Cardiff on 1 September. They also have (sold out) support dates with Frank Turner and The Subways, and a show on a boat for their UK label Alcopop! Records.
The dates will be the first opportunity to tour their self-titled debut album. Released last summer, its infectious poppy hooks, by turns cuttingly humorous and righteously angry, earned them plaudits from the likes of Kerrang and the NME.
