Newcastle, U.K. has seen the birth of some big name bands such as Eric Burden and the Animals, Dire Straits and the Pet Shop Boys. In what could be described as a punk ‘supergroup’ of sorts we now can add Monkey Mind to the list.
Consisting of Toy Dolls, Crashed Out, and The Panic Report, this three-piece band has evolved from their old school punk beginnings. Since its inception in 2018, Monkey Mind has been releasing songs sounding more modern and in an edgy pop-punk vein.
It’s rare for a band to release a music video for the final track of an album, but Monkey Mind obviously do things their own way. The track Ice Man- The ballad of Wim Hof is a punchy ball of energy with tasty harmonies and distorted guitars. For a musical reference, we’re in early Green Day territory. Despite their years of experience in the music industry, there’s still a hunger there which is mixed with a sense of fun.
So, who is this Wim Hof character? Also known as The Iceman, Wim Hof is a Dutch motivational speaker and extreme athlete noted for his ability to withstand freezing temperatures. He has set Guinness World Records for swimming under ice, prolonged full-body contact with ice and previously held the record for a barefoot half marathon on ice and snow. He attributes these feats to his Wim Hof Method, a combination of frequent cold exposure, breathing techniques, yoga and meditation. Hof has been the subject of several medical assessments and books.
The new Monkey Mind self-titled album is available now on digital platforms, and physical copies can be ordered through peopleofpunkrockrecords.com
