Proving there's plenty of life in the old Dog yet, great new songs from Eddie!
Energised by their first live show, Eddie Garrity’s Slaughter are excited to announce the release – on CD only – of their debut EP ‘Hot Raw Metal & Gasoline’. Tracks from the EP will be performed as part of their ‘Bite Back’ shows – see dates below!
Eddie Garrity aka Ed Banger (Ed Banger & the Nosebleeds, Slaughter & the Dogs / Slaughter) was born and raised in Wythenshawe, Manchester. Ed worked as a roadie for fellow mancunians Slaughter & the Dogs, when supporting the Sex Pistols & Buzzcocks at the legendary Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall show on 20th July 1976.
Following this Ed formed The Nosebleeds and became a fixture in the 1977 punk wars, the Nosebleeds single ‘Ain’t Been To No Music School / Fascist pigs’ was a schoolboy anthem around Manchester in 1977, selling 10,000 copies.
Ed Banger left the Nosebleeds in 1979, and joined Slaughter & the Dogs, after original singer Wayne Barrett had left the band on the eve of a 1979 UK tour. The album ‘Bite Back’ was released in 1980 (Ed co-writing many of the songs) under the abbreviated name ‘Slaughter’, the band then embarked on a sold out, nationwide tour of the UK. The original ‘Bite Back’ era came to an end in 1981.
Now fans can once again enjoy the voice behind those classic songs as Eddie Garrity revives his musical journey by taking a new ‘Bite Back’ line up on tour, performing the Slaughter & the Dogs’ album ‘Bite Back’ (Produced by Mott the Hoople drummer Dale Griffin) for the first time in its entirety – and more! “Get down and get with it and let the good times roll” as an ancient sage once said..
The good times certainly do rock ‘n’ roll in this 4 track EP! Starting with title song ‘Hot Raw Metal and Gasoline‘, all fuzzy riffs and revved up drums, the band are firing on all four cylinders!
A punky ode to T. Rex glam rocker Marc Bolan, ‘Dandy Rocker‘ name-checks their many hits. With a killer guitar solo and a few snippets of Bolan’s music too, this is a cool track, baby.
Third song ‘The Fool‘ is piano based. Eddie’s emotive voice pleads with the ‘legend in the badlands’ not to waste his energy on petty criminal activities in the name of rebellion – as we know, this harms rather than helps the cause..
Final number ‘Yeah Yeah‘ is a 21st century take on 50s and 60s rock ‘n’ roll – the original essence is there, but the pace is faster. Smashing guitar work across the whole track makes for a stunning conclusion to the EP.
A superb start to Eddie’s new Slaughter project, ‘Hot Raw Metal & Gasoline’ shows there’s plenty of life in the old Dog yet!
All the tracks were written by Eddie Garrity, and the EP was recorded at Crack Studios, Manchester last year. The CD of ‘Hot Raw Metal & Gasoline’ is avaialble from the band at gigs (see list below) or from their WEBSITE (scroll down!)

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate nearly 40 years of a record that was never actually released in the first place. Long-disbanded
Usually found jumping around down the front at gigs, I also relish taking photos and videos, singing, speaking with fellow music fans, and asking musicians the questions nobody else does. Writing about my favourite bands and connecting with people who love music too keeps me more-or-less sane! I’ve worked for over 25 years at a video production company, mainly filming live music events, therefore I have an additional backstage perspective on the scene.
