Gus Baldwin's 'The Sketch' shreds at 100 mph!

Austin, TX band Gus Baldwin & The Sketch have come screeching out of the gates with their debut full-length album ‘The Sketch‘! Gus Baldwin says “It was the fastest and funnest record I’ve ever had the pleasure to make. We went into Studio 22 with producer Joey Oaxaca last May, while touring up the west coast, and cranked this thing out in one 11 hour session.” Gus is a singer/songwriter/ex-hippie/part-time punk, who, after a stint holding down drums for Dallas surf punk legends Sealion, went on to form the psych pop combo Acid Carousel. Frantic, furious and fuzzy as f*ck, prepare your ears for a lightning strike from ‘The Sketch‘! Multi-talented BlackWristBand does it all

In BlackWristBand, Chicago punk John McGeown does it all—the singer and songwriter, the drummer, guitarist and bassist—and he does so with the force and fury of a fully-fledged lineup. ‘I Don’t Care‘ is the first single from his forthcoming debut album ‘My Escape‘. While he may not have any collaborators on his self-released debut album John jokes, “I do sort of have a split personality on the album. Different versions of myself showed up.” The single is a kaleidoscopic mirage of “resignation, defiance and introspection,” says John. “On the one hand, saying ‘I don’t care’ gives you a sense of apathy or detachment from various aspects of life. But the chorus offers a contrasting tone, emphasizing a sense of community and connection through music.”

Beast Killer light a new spark on 'Exploder' EP!

A two piece punk/ hardcore, noise rock band from Cleveland, Ohio, Beast Killer have perfected the art of making just guitar/vocals and drums create an absolutely massive sound! Their latest release is ‘Exploder‘, a 5 track EP, and there’s also an album on the way. Representing a positive shift from their previous record, despite the world shifting itself into a darker place, it encourages perspective and community when we need it the most. You’ll be surprised at the diversity of musical styles on this EP – these guys have drawn inspiration from all over, and they know how to write and play bangin’ tunes! Final song ‘Sparks‘ is “an ode to the circle of inspiration. It’s about finding your place in the melting pot of your community, and leaning into each other.”

4 Punk alumni band together as Roach Squad!

Hugo Mudie (The Sainte Catherines), Frankie Stubbs (Leatherface), Graeme Philliskirk (Leatherface) joined by Alex Keane (The Murderburgers), and another local Sunderland lad, Sim Robson, make up Roach Squad – and yes, they are every bit as good as you’d expect! ‘Wax & Dust‘ is the first single from their upcoming debut album, and we can’t wait to hear more! As with many of the members’ previous works, a DIY approach to writing and recording their new album was taken. The bulk of the recording took place at their own Rocket Studios in Sunderland, UK with the exception of Hugo laying down the vocals at Mixart Studios, Montreal, Canada. This single ROCKS – punchy, pounding and perfect for 2025.

Groovy garage riffs rock The Jellybricks new album

In tough times, it helps to listen to some feel-good music, and the groovy pop punk melodies in The Jellybricks‘ new album ‘Dreaming In Stereo‘ hit that spot! With the glorious harmonies and hook-filled tunes you’d expect from the Harrisburg, PA crew, who have persevered for two decades, this latest release is a real shining light. Track ‘Age of Stupid‘ recently took the #1 spot on Steve Van Zandt‘s Underground Garage‘s ‘Coolest Song in the World’ 2024, deservedly so! The guitar work and vocals on ‘All About You‘ are superb, the title track is sublime, and ‘Let You Down‘ is a credit to it’s 60s garage sound. Mattilha steer through life alone in 'Tempestade'

Brazilian rock is still alive, strong and has a lot to say. One year after the success of their EP ‘Coração Anárquico‘, Mattilha return with the challenging single ‘Tempestade‘. A great nostalgic gem, the song is full of references from the 80s and 90s, maintaining the band’s well-known hard rock atmosphere, but with a more modern and heavy sensibility. “We took a half-tone lower, giving Bibi [vocalist] more room to work on her voice and explore a sound that we didn’t have before” explains guitarist Victor Guilherme. This is the first work composed by the entire band together. Bassist Camilla Rodrigues states: “The lyrics of ‘Tempestade‘ address that moment in life when we have to go through it alone.”

Usually found jumping around down the front at gigs, I also relish taking photos and videos, singing, speaking with fellow music fans, and asking musicians the questions nobody else does. Writing about my favourite bands and connecting with people who love music too keeps me more-or-less sane! I’ve worked for over 25 years at a video production company, mainly filming live music events, therefore I have an additional backstage perspective on the scene.
