The iconic UK band's debut single, 'Young Parisians,' to make a triumphant return on translucent vinyl.
Adam and the Ants’ legendary debut single, ‘Young Parisians,’ along with its captivating B-side, ‘Lady’, is set to be reissued on October 23. This special 7″ vinyl release will transport fans back to the band’s early days, with hand-drawn illustrations by Adam Ant gracing the sleeve. For the first time ever, both tracks will also be available on digital platforms, ensuring a wider audience can experience their brilliance.
‘Young Parisians’ stands out as an acoustic cabaret-style masterpiece deliberately chosen to challenge the perception of Adam and the Ants as a mere punk band. Conversely, ‘Lady’ showcases the band’s undeniable talent for fast-paced punk rock. Interestingly, DJs at Sydney’s Double J radio station in Australia preferred the B-side, leading to its inclusion on the 1980 compilation album, ‘In the Bag.’
Formed in 1977, Adam and the Ants quickly became New Wave icons, pushing boundaries with their subversive sound and iconic fashion. Their success skyrocketed between 1980 and 1982, with three albums reaching the top 10 of the UK Official Albums Chart. Their groundbreaking album, ‘Kings of the Wild Frontier’ even secured the number 1 spot for an impressive twelve weeks. Additionally, they claimed two number 1 singles in the UK Official Singles Chart with ‘Stand and Deliver’ and ‘Prince Charming.’
Now, nearly 45 years later, on October 20, 2023, Decca Records will re-release a limited edition translucent 7″ vinyl. This exclusive release, featuring the stunning original artwork by Adam Ant, will undoubtedly captivate collectors and music enthusiasts alike. And for the first time in history, the digital world will welcome the digital release of “Lady,” allowing fans to enjoy this hidden gem in all its glory.
