The Hüsker Dü frontman has announced his first European dates for 2022, for which he will bring the solo electric version of his Distortion and Blue Hearts tour across the pond.
The shows are set to span more than 40 years of his career to date, including songs from the recent Distortion boxset, which collected his solo and band work from 1989 to 2019. The live dates will also feature tunes from his landmark band Hüsker Dü and his most recent album, 2020’s Blue Hearts!
Ahead of that the Distortion and Blue Hearts! tour hits the US for solo electric and full band runs, starting in Boston on 16 September. Support for Mould’s full band shows will come from Kestrels, Moaning, Slow Caves and Gentlemen Rogues, while the solo dates will feature Jason Narducy – bassist with Mould’s current band and whose Split Single project just released its latest album Amplificado.
Mould also shared an ‘unboxing’ video for his Distortion box with the actor, comedian and avid fan Fred Armisen, who penned the introduction to the 24-CD iteration of the release.
“I’m a long-time fan of Fred’s work, especially the Portlandia series,” Mould said. “Fred and I have made music together in the past – with my band, with [Armisen’s UK punk alter ego] Ian Rubbish, on Late Night with Seth Meyers and at the occasional birthday party. So, it was a thrill for me to ‘unbox’ the various configurations, geek out on the packaging and share a handful of fun stories.”
Released by Demon, the last of the Distortion boxes will be the fourth vinyl collection. Due out on 6 August, that eight LP set includes live recordings from Mould’s solo career as well as performances by his band Sugar.
Meanwhile, there are plans for a new Hüsker Dü live album. The Longhorn Tonight two-disc set is due to be released later this year and will capture early recordings by the Minneapolis punk pioneers.
