Punktuation gets exclusive behind-the-scenes access to The Professional’s video shoot for their upcoming single ‘Spike Me Baby’
Paul Cook‘s band, The Professionals, haven’t been twiddling their thumbs during the enforced ‘down time’ of recent months – far from it. They’ve been beavering away on various projects, including the release of not one, not two but THREE EP’s, and they’ve been locked away working on their new album ‘SNAFU’ (Situation Normal – All Fucked Up) that is due to be released in the autumn to coincide with their rescheduled tour dates (see below for details)
Today, the band were shooting the music video for their upcoming single ‘Spike Me Baby’.
Shot at Olympia in London by documentary filmmaker and ‘Neon punk artist’ Mark Illuminati, (a.k.a. Mark Sloper) ‘Spike Me Baby’ tells the tale of when Paul accidentally ate a tray of dope cakes at home and freaked out.
“It was a great day,” Mark says. “Paul never played Olympia with the Pistols, so he got his chance today. We were lucky to get in there because the site’s being redeveloped, but the millionaire owner and Sex Pistols fan let us use it for the day. A total punk blag!
“We annoyed all the builders with our loud punk rocking sounds – but secretly, they loved it, and they all wanted photos with our handsome punk drummer!

I’m a London born and bred music journalist, a mediocre bass player and the occasional strummer of the guitar. In the ’80s I worked in recording studios and made a few records you’d probably recognise. I have written a couple of books and made the odd media appearance as a music commentator. I now call Brisbane home.
