The album will also see J Robbins, Pegboy and The Bollweevils cover songs by the Chicago Punk Rock band.
A tribute album to Naked Raygun bassist Pierre Kezdy will be released next month to help support his family after cancer took him in 2020.
Out at the end next month, ‘Godspeed: A Tribute To Pierre Kezdy’ will feature Hot Water Music, Face To Face, Pegboy, The Bollweevils and more covering songs by Naked Raygun.
“Some great bands played our songs to honour Pierre Kezdy. What more can we say,” Naked Raygun commented on Instagram.
All proceeds will go to Kezdy’s family and ahead of its 28 July release a first song has been released, J Robins’ cover of the Naked Raygun deep cut ‘Got Hurt‘.
Kezdy started with Strike Under around the turn of the 1980s and also played with Pegboy.
He joined Naked Raygun in 1982, first playing on their second album ‘All Rise’ and then appearing on all releases through the band’s 1992 hiatus and 2000s reformation, including 2021’s ‘Over the Overlords’ which came out after his death.
While Naked Raygun may be better known these days as the first band a young Dave Grohl saw, they’ve been a Chicago punk rock institution since the 1980s, and during their first decade as a band singer Jeff Pezzati and then-guitarist Santiago Durango were also in Big Black with Steve Albini.
‘Godspeed: A Tribute To Pierre Kezdy’ will be out via Put It Here Productions and Big Minnow Records on 28 July. There’s also a run of related merch.
