Punk is synonymous with radical change and it’s no surprise bands are coming forward with emotionally charged covers of some old school classics. Hardcore punk supergroup Dead Cross are the latest with a brilliant cover of Black Flag‘s Rise Above.
The video opens showing evidence of police brutality with footage of the recent protests in Los Angeles filmed by Dead Cross drummer Dave Lombardo (Slayer) with an added voice recording gone viral of a Los Angeles resident telling the L.A. police chief during a public Zoom meeting: “Suck my dick and choke on it. I yield my time.”
It then continues with the band – Lombardo, bassist Justin Pearson, guitarist Michael Crain and Faith No More singer Mike Patton and their passionate rendition of the song from Black Flag’s Iconic 1981 Damaged album.
Everyone should have a soundtrack playing loudly in the background of their life. I was born moshing to my own beat and have never swayed from my love of music. Spreading my passion through the written word is my soul’s purpose. My punk heart beats loudly with the rhythm of my rock soul. I plan to continue to mosh like no one gives a shit.
