Black Lives Matter protests and the recent arrest of Peter Verzilov inspire Thrashing new single ‘Riot’ from Moscow-based punk rockers Pussy Riot.
With BLM protests the focal point of the world, new single ‘Riot’ is the latest track from the Russian feminist protest punk rockers who recently collaborated with Argentine artists Dillom, Parcas, and Muerejoven for the protest song “1312” released at the end of May.
“Yeah sex is great, But have you ever fucked the system Hate to hate, And my religion is?resistance Gatorade, The?only thing they?water plants with, Fuck the state, Men love?when women only whisper.”
Riot Lyrics – Pussy RiotTweet
‘Riot’, calling out corruption of the police system, has been inspired not only by world events, but also the recent detainment of the band unofficial spokesperson Verzilov for ‘suspicion of citing mass riots’. Released after a 13 hour interrogation only to be re-arrested later, as Pussy Riot allege in a statement relating to the event, by a Police “provocateur,” on charges of “hooliganism”, and sentenced to two weeks in jail.
In a statement released accompanying the new track, the band have said: “We stand with the protesters for racial equality and justice. We demand to defund the police and punish killer cops.”

Everyone should have a soundtrack playing loudly in the background of their life. I was born moshing to my own beat and have never swayed from my love of music. Spreading my passion through the written word is my soul’s purpose. My punk heart beats loudly with the rhythm of my rock soul. I plan to continue to mosh like no one gives a shit.
