The Green Day frontman covers the 1971 protest anthem on his Instagram ‘No Fun Mondays’ series
Green Day fans have been kept constantly entertained by Billie Joe Armstrong over the past few months with his mission to keep the ‘Covid Blues’ away with ‘No Fun Monday’ becoming a highly anticipated event via his Instagram.
Armstrong and the band have covered some classic songs, all of which have held some importance to him throughout his life, with a mixed bag of artists including Eric Carmen/ Shaun Cassidy – That’s Rock ‘n’ Roll to Blondie’s – Dreaming to The Bangles – Manic Monday along with a brilliant version of Kim Wilde ’s – Kids In America .
Last week Armstrong changed it up to ‘No Fun Monday Hump Day’ launching a cover of John Lennon’s 1971 protest anthem ‘Gimme Some Truth’ via Instgram.

Armstrong joins a long list of artists reaching out through the power of music with classic songs of protest from musical generations past and although written at a pertinent time many years ago, are lyrically still incredibly relevant today.
Although the band have no idea when they will be back together, let alone in the studio, Armstrong has used the isolation time for inspiration recently telling Kerrang!: “I had all these melodies in my head, so I wrote, like, six songs since all of this has been going on.”
As of today’s date the Hella Mega Tour, set for Australian and New Zealand shores in November is still current, kicking off in Perth W.A. on November 8th, finishing up across the ditch in Auckland NZ November 22nd. All tour information can be found via the Hella Mega Tour website.
