Punk's alive and raging in Croteau's debut EP!
Release Date: 29th November 2024
Record Label: Self released
Three young Isle of Man punks named Croteau released their excellent debut EP ‘Junky‘ 6 weeks ago. If the sounds Ali, Jake and Grey produce are anything to go by, the Manx punk scene is alive and riotous! The raw ’77 punk on ‘New York City Junk‘, ‘Pigs‘ and ‘Ulterior‘ is complemented by a rush of rage at the end of ‘Rich & Famous / MFTP‘, and a more modern sound in ‘Say The Word‘. Each of the 5 tracks on the EP is described on the back cover by a quote from a different revolutionary author – you can’t get more punk than that!

Wynona Bleach say no to rotting our brains online
Release Date: 7th October 2024
Record Label: Fierce Panda Records
Belfast’s fierce and feisty four-piece Wynona Bleach bowled us over with their latest single ‘I Deserve That‘, a cautionary tale about the cultural bin fire that exists around the chronically online. Guitarist Jonny Woods says: “Tt’s a track about brain rot and how social media and tv can be poisonous and make you feel worthless and bad about yourself, and how you should go outside, and touch grass every once in a while.” With their sophomore album on the horizon, he along with Melyssa, James and Carl can be sure of a great 2025!

The Fixations swear they ain't the same..
Release Date: 16th September 2024
Record Label: Whiskey Blood Music
Texan band The Fixations’ second full length release ‘The Fixations Are Who You Thought They Were‘ marks a triumphant return for the no bullshit rock ‘n’ rollers! In contradiction to the album title, singer and guitarist Lance Jones reckons their sound has changed. “I think the growth in the songwriting from the first album to this one is exponential. It’s been six years between the writing of each one. You can do a lot of growing.” With co-writer, guitarist Kevin Cremeens to elevate the musicality and lyrics, infectious hooks are aplenty!

Blagged hit the spot with this purposeful punk EP!
Release Date: 3rd January 2025
Record Label: Brassneck Records
Manchester band Blagged explore the ways we (often erroneously!) think in ‘Cortex Marks The Spot‘, their new EP release. Describing their sound as “Punk rock with purpose”, this quartet have brought a psychology textbook to life in 6 rockin’ tracks! ‘Scratches‘ (below)was written to share a heartfelt experience of their troubled teen years. The band’s aim is to bring the listener back into reflecting on their own journey of anguish and recoil through trying times. Vocalist Sara covers the full range, from gentle to raging, while the guys thrash their guitars and drums in addition to providing tight backing harmonies as required. Magnificent!

Usually found jumping around down the front at gigs, I also relish taking photos and videos, singing, speaking with fellow music fans, and asking musicians the questions nobody else does. Writing about my favourite bands and connecting with people who love music too keeps me more-or-less sane! I’ve worked for over 25 years at a video production company, mainly filming live music events, therefore I have an additional backstage perspective on the scene.
