Reviving 90s alternative rock on their third album, ‘Tutti Frutti‘, The Pighounds – aka Peter Bering and Alessandro de Luca – reduce their songs to the essentials. This Dortmund duo breathe charming and catchy melodies into the album – at the same time, the two scratch, bite, and hit around as if they have to prove there’s nothing missing. What started as snotty garage rock quickly found its own sound and style. More focused, harder, without losing the slacker DIY charm. The two scene activists, who curate their own festival in addition to music video evenings in the local cinema, have expanded their color palette. In addition to band-typical riff monsters like ‘Serenity‘ or ‘Love Fuzz‘, ‘Pay To Play‘ surprises with new calmness, ‘Vadder‘ tells its story in a laid-back manner, and ‘Day Of The Acid‘ increases in its anthemic, stomping way as a highlight of the album. A bizarre mix of grunge, stoner, alternative rock, punk… blending seamlessly and without genre rules.

Utrecht hardcore punk band State Power‘s latest outpouring of fury – their second EP; ‘Final Hour‘ is ready to tear into your ears! A relentlessly loud and senselessly fast hardcore punk band, and a manifestation of pure love in its most aggressive form, the first year of State Power was explosive. A sold-out release show, an electrifying Popronde, and a series of shows with John Coffey and Tusky – the band is on the rise! Now, exactly six months after their their highly praised debut ‘The Year Of The Harvest‘ dropped, the band is back with their sophomore EP. Zillion m.p.h ‘Nitroglycerin‘ starts the album with a packed 30 seconds of melodic thrash. Showcasing their slow ‘n’ heavy side with crushing track ‘Cowards‘ frontman Stefan explains: “The song is a condemnation of apathy and exploitation in the face of capitalism’s deepening contradictions.” The bass kicks off ‘Spiritual Dead End‘, about the “useless supplication” of religion. This band believe in “solidarity and cooperation amongst humanity.”

Founded in 2019 in Sept-Iles (Quebec), Killing Daisies deliver raw, authentic energy to punk rock, powered by a dynamic female vocal that fuses infectious melodies with hard-hitting, introspective lyrics. Their second album, ‘Echoes of Tomorrow‘, combines their classic ’90s punk rock roots with a fresh, modern edge. Featuring ten tracks packed with high-energy riffs, melodic hooks, and introspective lyrics, it explores themes of resilience, rebellion, and hope. Each track has real strength, from the anthemic ‘Against The Wolves‘ to the riff-fest of ‘One For All‘. Single release ‘Downfall‘ and ‘In Pieces‘ hit just as hard, albeit in more melodic fashion. The title track is just immense! ‘Crossfire‘ and ‘Fuel The Flame‘ rage, ‘Take Back Control‘, ‘Never Find The Answer‘ and album closer ‘Resilience‘ rock. The band effortlessly combines the nostalgia of 90s skate punk with a modern edge, crafting anthems that leave a lasting impact.

“NO! I don’t need any help plugging it in thanks!” London feminist performance-art-punks Twat Union are one of our favourite new discoveries from Rebellion’s Introducing Stage last year. Their new single ‘Singer Of The Band‘ is about “the assumption that you’re the singer of the band just because you’re a woman. All female musicians will have had an experience where they have been spoken to as if they don’t know how to play their instrument. So we wrote this thrashy anthem for them (and us). The music video sees us use guitar picks as fake nails, a trumpet as a hoover, and a jack lead as a washing line for our tiny pants. Because that’s all we could possibly do with instruments, right?!” 2025 will be busy year for the band – there’s a debut EP on the horizon, ‘Don’t Look It In The Eye‘ dropping in April, plus a spring tour including the EP launch at The Lexington on 5th April. They’re also returning to Rebellion – make sure you experience this theatrical feminist punk 6 piece’s wild, immersive gigs and trademark provocative humour!

Usually found jumping around down the front at gigs, I also relish taking photos and videos, singing, speaking with fellow music fans, and asking musicians the questions nobody else does. Writing about my favourite bands and connecting with people who love music too keeps me more-or-less sane! I’ve worked for over 25 years at a video production company, mainly filming live music events, therefore I have an additional backstage perspective on the scene.
